Another product of the band’s collaborative partnership with Joey Walker (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard), The Hedonist grazes as it passes you.

While grounded in the warped aesthetic so dominant in their earlier work, the single represents a new arrow in the band’s quiver – taking cues from early disco in its approach to rhythm.

Where the band’s previous single, Always Blue, playfully exhibited a sense of abject resignation, The Hedonist is gripped by a different malaise. Stepping away from fatalism and submission, the single kicks and screams as it drives forward.

In pitting our natural response to its form - to shut up and dance - against its lyrical frustration, Foreign/National are asking an age old question with vicious sincerity: why am I at this party if all it does is make me sad?
